What you will do:

Reporting to the Deputy City Clerk, your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Administer the Marriage License and Civil Marriage Ceremony Program
  • Issue Marriage Licences, schedule and conduct marriage ceremonies
  • Prepare reports relating to the Marriage License and Civil Marriage Ceremony Program
  • Assist with issuing burial permits and related activities
  • Respond to in-person, telephone and email inquiries by providing information about the Marriage License/Civil Marriage Ceremony Program, burial permit issuance and other divisional programs
  • Assist customers at the counter as the first point of contact
  • Provide general support to division
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will bring:

  • Two (2) year college diploma in business administration or related field with one to two (1-2) years of customer service experience, preferably in the public sector;  equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated attention to accuracy and detail in a time sensitive environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment characterized by changing priorities while attending to details
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with confidential issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting 
  • Ability to take initiative and work proactively with little direction
  • Familiarity with the Vital Statistics Act and Marriage Act
  • Computer proficiency in a variety of programs including Microsoft Office and Electronic Records Management software
  • A passion for promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and the ability to work respectfully and effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion

What we will require:

  • A Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check satisfactory to the City
  • Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualification, if applicable
  • Applicants may be required to undergo skills assessment testing
